Commercial Driver medicals are required to assess a person’s fitness to drive a commercial vehicle safely.

While many factors contribute to safety on the road, driver health and fitness to drive is an important consideration. Above all, drivers must meet certain medical standards to ensure their health status does not unduly increase their crash risk.

What are your responsibilities as a COMMERCIAL driver?

Like all drivers, you have a legal responsibility not drive if you are not fit to do so. This is an obligation under road safety law, and for commercial drivers it is an obligation under Work Health and Safety law.

You also have an obligation to report to the Driver Licensing Authority any health condition that may affect your ability to drive safely. We will advise you if you have any conditions that might impact on your ability to drive, and in some cases a referral will be provided for you to discuss with your General Practitioner. In the vast majority of cases, early identification and management of health conditions will mean that you will retain your driver licence, potentially on a Conditional Licence, which may require more frequent health reviews.

PRICING

The price of Commercial Driver Medicals conducted at a Jobfit centre is $306.90 (incl GST). In addition, a credit card surcharge is payable.

Moreover, pre-placement may include a drug screen, depending on the operator’s requirements. Therefore, this medical can include an Instant Drug & Alcohol test if requested at an additional cost.

Jobfit performs all drug and alcohol testing according to the relevant Australian & New Zealand Standard (urinary drug testing to Australian Standard AS/NZS 4308:2008 and oral fluid drug testing to Australian Standard AS/NZS 4760:2019). In the event that an instant drug test or laboratory drug test is non-negative, it is mandatory under the Australian Standards for the sample to undergo further confirmation testing within a NATA accredited laboratory before a final result is issued. This further confirmation testing will incur an additional cost, and is not included in the cost of the medical. Payment of the additional fee will be required before the medical results can be released.

I acknowledge that in the event of a non-negative drug test result, I will be required to pay an additional fee of $174.90 (incl GST) for mandatory GCMS confirmation testing before the medical result is released.
